Give without a get. Overdressing (joyfully) for the Revolution.

History, Piece by Piece

I thought I’d try muted tones today and…just couldn’t resist adding color. The dress and coat are secondhand, but the sturdy and handsome Lands’ End Chelsea boots were new (once upon a few years ago). My favorite part of the outfit, of course, is this cropped quilted jacket from Studio SCS/St. Clair’s Scissors

This. Piece. The craftsmanship is exquisite and it’s one of the pieces that honestly helped inspire me to work on transforming my closet with more thoughtfulness and intention. In the past year, I started learning more about slow makers, fashion-conscious upcycling, and ethical consumption. There are many amazing makers out there. To me, Studio SCS has a way to make classics modern and to make modern timeless. Wearing this piece has a downside though: I inevitably get asked if I made it and I’m annoyed to admit I didn’t, I couldn’t, and probably won’t be able to anytime soon😂. But cheers to those who can!

Speaking of those who CAN, to me, quilting is the fiber art most visually appealing, yet most intimidating to imagine myself trying. But who needs trying when the learning is so rich and enjoyable?!? For those so inclined, I’d suggest the PBS series, Black Quilters: Historians and Memory Keepers

I twirl in the office all the time. Well, sometimes…
Fit check on the subway platform, except I am still not good with camera timing. I really did smile!
